The final stretch to double the yield

In the coming weeks, we will explore the best methods to terminate the crop: pinching off, pruning, and lowering.

Again, another record to celebrate for Ghost House: their highest sales in a single market day!!

Unfortunately, it wasn't because of their tomatoes. As Drew said: "Funny enough, it coincided with the downtick in our tomatoes.”

But there is very good news for their tomatoes.

They’re on their way to double their yield again!

  1. Fruit load is 14 fruits per plant.
  2. There are 4 new clusters to be grown until the pinching-off time.

If we do the math:

  • 4 clusters, on which we keep four fruits, give us 16 fruits.
  • Add it to the 14 fruits already set; we are at 30 fruits to be harvested per plant.
  • At 8 oz/fruit, this means 15 lbs or 4 lbs/sq. ft.

Since they have already harvested 2.5 lbs/sq. ft., they should have a final yield of 6.5 lbs/sq. ft.!

Remember that last year's yield was 3 lbs and this year’s target is 5 lbs/sq.ft.

Will they be able to ensure this yield?

Since their plants are currently vigorous and healthy, I am confident they will succeed.

Plus, they are very vigilant: pollinating every day, making sure every plant gets shaken enough.

If they can keep plants disease-free throughout August, the hardest part will be done! Staying up to date on pruning, and maybe a preventive spray of Serenade to block powdery mildew should work fine.

In the coming weeks

We will explore the best methods to terminate the crop. This includes pinching off, pruning, and lowering.

We want to ensure that plants focus all their energy on ripening that 4 lbs/sq. ft.

Take care!
